Solar Radiation and Climate Experiment Launch

01/25/2003 — SORCE successfully launched via a Pegasus dropped from an L-1011 which took off on Saturday, January 25 from Kennedy Space Center/Cape Canaveral Air Force Station (KSC/CCAFS) in FL. SORCE has four instruments which will study and measure solar irradiance as a source of energy in the Earth's atmosphere. Two of these, Total Irradiance Monitor (TIM) and Spectral Irradiance Monitor (SIM), comprise NPOESS' Total Solar Irradiance Monitor (TSIM) instrument suite. Their inclusion on SORCE is part of NPOESS risk reduction activities. Additional information on the Launch can be found at University of Colorado's Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics
